Place du Gros Tilleul - Samoëns
Start to "Espoir" Category
Come take on a (very) big loop around our valley, passing lakes, mountain passes, and summits, some snow-covered, many particularly technical, and all physically demanding! Running at night, crossing the playground of ibex, chamois, and marmots, in short, experiencing a truly mountainous trail, is what awaits you on this grand loop!
Where will we take you on this journey? You’ll start as your fellow runners do in the UTHG, heading toward Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval, but won’t immediately join the Sales valley… No, before that, you’ll head toward Fer à Cheval and tackle the steep climb to Praz de Communes, before reaching the Grenairon refuge, which offers one of the most beautiful views of the Fiz. After descending and visiting the vertiginous Cirque des Fonts, you’ll reach the base of the Fiz via the Petit Col d’Anterne and the Alfred Wills refuge, before descending to the Cascades de la Pleureuse and the Sauffaz.
These waterfalls mark the start of the final climb... which won’t be there for fun: no Sales, no refuge of the same name, and a climb up the Combe des Foges, until you reach Col Pelouse, the highest point of the course. From there, you’ll finally descend toward the Lac de Gers, eagerly awaiting the warrior’s rest, just a few kilometers away and a few hundred meters lower...
This course includes sloped sections, gradients exceeding 35°, potentially snow-covered areas at this time of year, or very slippery depending on weather conditions, limestone pavement zones, and a passage at 2400m altitude. It is essential to ensure that your experience and physical and mental condition on race day are aligned with the demands of this environment.
