Ultra-Trail® du Haut-Giffre (UTHG)

With the UTHG, we enter the big leagues. Getting going will be easy but if you finish, after more than 90 kilometres and 7,000m of elevation, you’ll enter into a club reserved only for the toughest runners. A high level of technical ability and endurance are required to make it to the top of this race which includes several sections at over 2,000m in altitude.

This race takes the same route as the Frahans Trail but sends you off just before the end of the final descent for a final climb via the Refuge de Folly at an altitude of 2,200m at the Valley of Puaires.

From there, you’ll embark upon the now legendary snowy descent to the Lac de la Vogealle. Then after a quick pitstop at the refuge of the same name, you’ll carry on with your descent to the bottom of the End of the World valley, enjoying the spectacular view of this valley and that of the famous horseshoe arena. Run in the direction of the horseshoe, and after having regained your strength at the Pelly food station, prepare to warm up your thighs again. There are still two more beautiful climbs which await you: the first will take you up to the Praz de Commune and its authentic Alpine pastures, then the second will bring you from Sixt up to the Lac de Gers.

From then on, you’re just left to ‘gently roll down’ to the finish line, carried by the encouragement of the public and the volunteers until the end of the final lap of the lake!
